Marijuana Can Still Lead To Criminal Charges In Colorado

Some clients face charges related to marijuana even though marijuana is now legal in Colorado. However, certain limits to possession and sale of marijuana still apply and could be punishable through fines or jail time. Additionally, federal laws regarding this substance are much stricter than state laws and may still apply in some cases.

Here is some of what the law currently allows regarding marijuana:

  • Buyers must be 21 or older.
  • Possession of 1 ounce or less for personal use is acceptable.
  • Transferring 1 ounce or less without selling it is generally legal.
  • You may grow and cultivate six plants or fewer.

Any actions exceeding these limits and rules are breaking the law. These laws can also change frequently, so people should be sure to stay apprised of any changes.

We Advocate For Families Dealing With Drug Addiction

At WeedenLaw, we care about our clients. We can not only defend your case, but also direct you to resources for working on your drug problems and toward a better life.

We work with families in Colorado to overcome the consequences of drug crimes. This may involve reviewing the arrest to ensure your constitutional rights were not violated during a search for the drugs, for example.

We represent clients facing a variety of drug-related crimes such as:

  • Possession of illegal substances or amounts of marijuana over legal limits
  • Cultivation and manufacturing of drugs (typically resulting in felony charges)
  • Distribution of drugs (felony)

Punishments may be steeper if it's proven any of these crimes occurred near playgrounds or schools. If you and your family have been affected by drugs coming into your lives and drug crimes, we can help.
